ADHD / ASD Evaluations

What is it?

In many ways, psychological assessments are like having a medical test that aids in ruling in or out a diagnosis. A psychological assessment is a set of tests that help determine how your child’s brain functions and engages with the world. For instance, it will aid in understanding their cognitive functioning, memory, executive functioning, emotional functioning, how they learn, and how they take in and respond to sensory information. The results of the tests will then help inform the diagnosis, development of a treatment plan, and recommendations to support your child.

If you resonate with any of this, an assessment is right for you:

My child’s school has concerns around ADHD/ASD.

I am struggling to support my child, and they are struggling in school and at home.

My child is having difficulties with social relationships, engages in repetitive movements or behaviors, has specific interests, and is rigid/particular/rule-based in thinking.

My child struggles to remember things, follow directions, becomes frustrated easily, is often lost in thought, constantly on the move, and is self-critical.

I’m looking to unswrtnad my childs needs, help my child and set them up for success.

What can I expect in an assessment?

  • An intake session with a clinical psychologist to gain a better understanding of your child. This can be virtual or in-person.

  • Two to three testing sessions with a clinical psychologist. These sessions are in person and last approximately two to three hours.

  • Questionnaires for school and family to complete.

  • A school observation and teacher/SENCO interview.

  • Feedback session where you will receive a written report with personalized recommendations and referral information.

  • Our assessments follow NICE Guidelines and includes a multidisciplinary team as needed, consisting of a Consultant Psychologist, two Senior Clinical Psychologists, an Occupational Therapist, and a Speech and Language Therapist.

  • We are connected with a Consultant Psychiatrist if a referral is recommended.

What does ADHD/ASD therapy look like?

If your child receives a diagnosis of ADHD or ASD, you may want to engage in Therapeutic services. These services are usually fifty minutes long and are engaged in on a weekly or biweekly basis. My team and I are trained to see children 0-5 and 6-19 years old who are struggling with a large range of clinical difficulties. My therapeutic framework is based on play as play is the language of children. I work from multiple frameworks to support children in gaining the skills needed for them to thrive. We will work on executive functioning, emotional control, impulsivity, social skills, relationships, and more. We believe we all have neurodiverse brains, meaning each one of us has a unique way of viewing the world, and that is what makes the world beautiful. While we are all neurodiverse in some way, for some children, certain situations can be more difficult and cause distress, and that is where we come in. We support them in gaining tools and skills to help them thrive, no matter the environment around them.

 FAQs

  • Therapy sessions are 50 minutes long.

  • A therapy session is 200 per session.

  • I can typically get you in within two weeks but at times I am full.

  • This varies depending on the difficulties of each child however most of clients graduate from therapy within approximately 4-6 months. At times children with attention deficit disorder will need to come back to sessions for a top up/reminder of skills here and there which is not a problem and a good thing. In that case they usually need a top up of 2-8 sessions and then break again.

  • That is ok you don’t have to believe it. Over time you will see the impact of therapy. Children learn and understand the world through play. Play will bring joy to your family and life. Therapy will support your child in building skills, and this takes time. Therapy is not a one time “fix.”
